Manuel Ruppert - Plastics and Rubber Technologist

How do the first days of the training work? What can I expect in the company? And why RAUMEDIC of all places? Our RAUMEDIC apprentices answer all these questions..

As part of the "first 150 days at RAUMEDIC" we will introduce you to Manuel Ruppert. He has been training as a plastics and rubber technologist since 2023.

Hello Manuel. Why don't you introduce yourself briefly?

Hi, I'm from Schlackenreuth near Presseck and I'm 24 years old.
In my free time I play football at TV Kleinschwarzenbach, like to play video games and darts.

Why did you decide to train as a plastics and rubber technologist?

Originally, I had actually applied for manual assembly. During the interview, I was recommended to take a closer look at the areas of silicone and thermoplastextrusion.

I did a 4-week internship there – and it was really fun! I liked the shift work because I'm someone who likes to be up late in the evening anyway. Everything just fit.

What were your first days at work like?

The first three days were full of onboarding activities to make it easier for us to find our way around RAUMEDIC. Our instructors introduced themselves and we apprentices were able to get to know each other.

In addition, we have also received some training. For example about setting up our personal laptops or regulations from the medical sector. At the end of these introductory days, we went to our workplaces.
Our special safety instructions, which you receive for every area of the plant, were particularly important. I got them right away.

How did you initially cope with the special conditions in the cleanroom?

You simply have to be aware of the special responsibility when manufacturing medical devices that are also used on humans: For example, it is crucial to disinfect your hands regularly and to comply with the prescribed airlock and clothing regulations when entering and leaving the cleanroom.
But that's something you get used to very quickly.😊

What impressed you the most in the first 150 days?

I found my stay at the quality management department at the plant particularly interesting. It was there that I realized how extensive the tasks are and how much they have to do in this area. In everyday life at work, you often don't notice what goes into ensuring the quality of the products. That was really impressive.

I also think it's good that you can rely on the shift divisions. You don't have to be afraid that something will change in the short term if you have already made plans for the end of work.

What are you looking forward to in the next 150 days?

I'm looking forward to going through all the factory areas. I will also get to know departments outside the cleanroom, such as logistics.
At the same time, I am already looking forward to being assigned to a permanent area after my apprenticeship and to supporting the team there.

Finally, do you have any advice for future apprentices?

It is best to do an internship beforehand if you are still unsure. This gives you the opportunity to get to know different areas and decide on what you enjoy the most.

Thank you Manuel!
