Hi Daniela, how do you spend your weekends?

On weekends I like to visit my parents in my hometown Sonneberg. Otherwise I like to go to the gym or to dance in my free time. I also give math tutoring for different grades.

Tell us about the dual study program for computer science.

The dual study program takes a total of 4,5 years. You must have at least a high school diploma and the programm can be divided into three areas:

  • The in-company training at RAUMEDIC
  • Classes at the vocational school 1 in Bayreuth
  • Studies at the university of applied science in Hof

The first year of the program comprises about 16 weeks of vocational school. The rest of the time I spend completely in the company. After the first year of training, I have to take the IHK final exam part 1, which counts for 20% of the total final exam.

The second year includes the basic studies, so I'm mainly at the university then. During the semester breaks, I am assigned to the company and have 4 weeks of vocational school.

In the third year, I am mainly at the university for the in-depth studies, but I work at RAUMEDIC during the semester breaks and have 4 weeks of vocational school. The third year of study is followed by the final exam part two and a technical lecture at the IHK.

In the remaining 1.5 years I am continuously at the university for the deepening, specialization and project work. At the end of each semester there is an exam period, as no exams are written during the semester. During the semester breaks, however, I continue to work at the company and also write my bachelor's thesis there.

What does your day-to-day work at RAUMEDIC look like?

My weekly working hours are 40 hours and 40 minutes. That is a RAUMEDIC peculiarity. Normally, we would have 30 vacation days available per year. However, the 40 minutes of extra work per week results in 4 extra vacation days and thus 34 vacation days.

The RAUMEDIC IT department is divided into the following sub-areas: Infrastructure, Security, SAP and Corporate Applications. I get insights into all subareas through my colleagues and also get assigned tasks from each area.

Daily tasks include installing computers or desk phones, software installations, technical support for RAUMEDIC employees and workplace planning. Workstation planning is,the entire set-up or reconstruction of a workstation including monitors, telephone, cables and docking station.

Could you please describe us the program at the vocational school?

I have lessons at the vocational school 1 in Bayreuth in blocks. This means that I always have a whole week of school at different intervals. On three days I have classes until afternoon and on the other two only until noon.

I am placed in a "student class" there because we are taught the content much more compactly and quickly. As a result, I'm going through the training to become an IT specialist much faster.

At the vocational school, we have both theory and practice classes. I have subjects such as IT technology, IT systems, application development and programming.

In addition, I have general education subjects such as German, English, and politics and society. During the school year, we also write tests.

Why did you choose Raumedic?

I chose RAUMEDIC because it is a future-proof company. I also like the fact that many people are helped by the manufacture of our products. But of course I was also convinced by our employee benefits. On the one hand, the good training salary and, on the other hand, the RAUMEDIC pension after passing the probationary period.

What is special for you about the dual study program at RAUMEDIC?

I wasn't thrown straight into the deep end, but first had various topics and tasks explained to me. I was also simply taken along to various appointments and projects to get an insight into the various tasks and activities.

I really enjoy installing and programming. Just as much as solving more complicated tasks. In addition, there is a great atmosphere within the team and among colleagues.

I really appreciated that an online language course was provided to me to improve my English skills for my studies. This gives me the chance to turn my weaknesses into strengths.

What do you think a young person should bring with them for this course of study?

First and foremost, an interest in and enjoyment of working with and on computers is essential. In IT, you have to deal with PCs, laptops, monitors and everything that goes with them on a daily basis. Good English and math skills are also very important. You should be willing to learn and enjoy finding solutions to problems.

What do you wish for your future career?

I would like to continue to learn a lot and support the company with my knowledge. I would also like to do a master's degree after my bachelor's degree.
