Lena Schaller - Mechatronics Engineer

How do the first days of the training work? What can I expect in the company? And why RAUMEDIC of all places? Our RAUMEDIC apprentices answer all these questions..

Today, Lena Schaller talks about her first 150 days at RAUMEDIC. She is currently training to become a mechatronics engineer.

Hi Lena. Can you introduce yourself?

I am 17 years old and I live in Lerchenhügel. That's near Schwarzenbach am Wald.

I love to be outdoors and do a lot with friends. I also help the Bavarian Red Cross to train children.

Mechatronics engineers are often still associated with a typically male profession. Why did you decide to do this apprenticeship?

You have to get down to business, but that's exactly what appeals to me about it. Of course, I also have to be able to assert myself, but you have to do the same in other professions and departments.

I think the variety in the job is great. Because I'm learning about electrical and pneumatic activities, but also about locksmith work. You just get to know a wide field. In addition, there are not only purely manual activities, but also tasks to be done on the computer.

What did you experience on your first days at work?

I liked the team building at the beginning of the training very much. All the apprentices, both the new ones and those from higher years, built a raised bed together. In addition, we have also made a plan for who will water and take care of the bed in what week.

Everyone actively pitched in. As a result, we all got to know each other better and grew together.
In addition, we were given a tour of all the buildings by our instructors in the workshop. We were introduced to our colleagues and shown a few tasks that will await us during our apprenticeship. That was an exciting insight.

What can you tell us about your first 150 days?

My first 150 days were very varied and interesting. You always get to learn something new.

I felt welcome here right from the start. RAUMEDIC is a big community where everyone helps each other. Not only can I ask my instructor for advice, but I can also count on the support of all my other colleagues.

What are you looking forward to in your next 150 days?

I am particularly looking forward to new assemblies at the factory. There we are shown a lot that you don't usually get to see.
We can actively help and learn how to set up new machines or lay cables. It's just a very exciting experience.

Do you have any advice for people who are looking for an apprenticeship?

Don't worry if you don't yet have any knowledge in the field you want to do an apprenticeship in, such as a technical background or manual experience. You get so much support during the apprenticeship and learn everything step by step.

You can do it!

Thank you Lena!
