RAUMEDIC and E.ON announce construction of environmentally friendly energy center

  • Construction of a new biomass heating plant to fully supply heat to the RAUMEDIC site in Helmbrechts, Germany

  • Savings of more than 85% of CO2 emissions from heating output

  • Installation of over 2,000 photovoltaic panels to generate electricity

Helmbrechts, Germany - RAUMEDIC and E.ON are cooperating to build and operate an environmentally friendly energy center on the RAUMEDIC company site in Helmbrechts. The energy center will go into operation in the course of 2024 and supply RAUMEDIC with heat and electricity from renewable energy sources.

The new energy center is part of RAUMEDIC's sustainability efforts. The centerpiece of the project is the construction of a wood chip heating plant that supplies all buildings at the Helmbrechts site with heat. For RAUMEDIC, this means a move away from a fossil heat supply with natural gas to a renewable energy source of biomass.

Maximilian Hofmann, Sustainability Manager and Project Manager Energy Center at RAUMEDIC:

"The Energy Center project is an important part of our energy concept at RAUMEDIC. The construction of our own wood chip heating plant represents the best solution in terms of sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The project is our foundation on the way to climate neutrality. In the future, we will save 85% of our CO2 emissions in the area of heat supply."

The company's own biomass heating plant brings security of supply through regional partnerships, long-term price stability and a saving of around 1,800 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This corresponds to the annual emissions of around 41 four-person households.

The additional installation of 2,000 photovoltaic panels on the rooftop of a production building will generate 880,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year in the future - roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of 220 four-person households.

Stefan Seuferling, CEO of RAUMEDIC AG:

"The energy transition is in full swing in all industrial sectors. The medical technology and pharmaceutical industries need sustainable supply chains in order to be able to bring sustainable products to the market themselves. RAUMEDIC is showing itself to be a competent and future-proof partner for the entire industry with an innovative and environmentally friendly energy concept."

The energy center is a cooperation between RAUMEDIC and E.ON. The energy center will be fully commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2024 following the construction and test phase.
