NeZuMed - Network for Innovative Suppliers in Medical Technology
Throughout the years, the German medical technology industry has recorded average growth of 8%. The outlook for the future is also promising due to globalisation, industrialisation and demographics. In addition to absolute medical product manufacturers (distributors), supply companies are also benefiting from this growth. Medical technology companies are increasingly looking for suppliers who, on the one hand, distinguish themselves through innovative products and technology and, on the other hand, are in a position to provide all-in-one solutions.
For this reason, a total of 15 mostly north Bavarian companies and three research institutes have united based on an initiative by the Innovationsoffensive Ostbayern (IOO – East Bavarian Innovation Offensive), the IHK Bayreuth Oberfranken (Bayreuth Upper Franconia Chamber of Commerce and Trade) and the senetics - Wissenschaftliches Institut für Innovation und Beratung (senetics – Scientific Institute for Innovation and Consultation) to establish the Netzwerk für innovative Zulieferer in der Medizintechnik (NeZuMed – Network for Innovative Suppliers in Medical Technology) (www.nezumed.de). The companies involved come from all subdomains imaginable: from the engineer’s office to the belt weavers’ station, from the polymer processor to the electronics manufacturer – a wide range of technologies and skills have joined forces in NeZuMed. Complemented by the extensive expertise of the scientific institutes, NeZuMed believes it is up to the challenge of quickly and competently mastering cross-technology product innovations within the network.
The necessity and far-reaching benefits of this type of network were also recognised by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie (German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology), which has backed NeZuMed since May 2011 as part of its Central Innovation Programme SME (ZIM-NEMO) Funding Model Network Projects. Katja Hessel, State Secretary for the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Infrastruktur, Verkehr und Technologie (Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology), once again confirmed this as part of an initial symposium on 14 October 2011 where NeZuMed presented itself to the public for the first time. As a NeZuMed member, RAUMEDIC also had its own booth.
