RAUMEDIC AG, Helmbrechts – a leading manufacturer of polymer components and systems in extrusion, injection molding, and assembly for the medical and pharmaceutical industry – is a long-standing development partner and system supplier for B. Braun Melsungen AG.
Together, the companies turned the idea to provide a safe closure for the catheter connector with a simple “click and ready” into a remarkable product and production concept. The result was a product that is characterized by its ergonomic design and easy and intuitive management. Haptic and acoustic feedback about the closing of the connector gives the user the guarantee that a firm and reliable connection has been established with the Perifix® catheter.
The new catheter connector now only consists of three individual components, instead of five as the predecessor model did. RAUMEDIC fashioned the bottom part of the catheter connector in the 2K injection molding method, combining a hard base with a soft component made from high-performance TPE, which was specially developed for this application. The assembly of the components, including a 100% in-process control with camera systems, is performed in a fully automated manner directly adjacent to the injection molding area of RAUMEDIC.
That the two companies were successful in implementing the new concept is not only demonstrated by the fact that the product received the Red Dot Design award, but also the product’s high market acceptance.
B. Braun and RAUMEDIC are proud to report the production of the 50 millionth Perifix® catheter connector. Fifty million applications in anesthesia and pain therapy for the well-being of the patient are impressive proof that the product and production concept was chosen correctly.
B. Braun and RAUMEDIC both agree that this successful history should be continued. The companies plan to jointly celebrate the 100 millionth Perifix® catheter connector motto – true to the old adage, “it keeps going and going and going …”
Or, to be more accurate, “it clicks and holds tight and clicks and holds tight and clicks and holds tight…”
