Overview of processible thermoplastic materials

Our portfolio of polymers comprises all commonly used thermoplastic materials. We coordinate with you in selecting the ideal plastic material for the application.

Our processing range contains everything from amorphous to part-crystalline high performance plastics such as FEP, PEEK or PTFE to technical plastic materials such as PC, TPU or ABS to all standard plastic materials such as PVC or EVA.

Thermoplastic Elastomers

We process all polymeric thermoplastic materials during extrusion, injection moulding and assembly. One speciality represents the materials class of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs).

The advantage of RAUMEDIC TPE materials lies in their combination of elastic properties with thermoplastic processibility properties.

The already described hard-soft combinations play an outstanding role in this regard. TPE materials as the soft component can be combined with various thermoplastic polymers.

We utilise TPE materials for a number of applications, with an emphasis on rubber, latex or PVC replacement materials. But these materials are also useful in soft touch applications in order to improve haptics or in the form of sealing elements.

Thanks to the multi-component technology and special thermoplastic elastomers, sealing elements can be integrated into a component in one processing step without subsequent assembly work.

It is possible to achieve good adhesion on thermoplastic materials such as PE, PP, PS, ABS, PC and PA. At the customer’s request, further polymer combinations can be implemented for utilization in medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry depending on the component.

Naturally, if requested, we also conduct the necessary materials qualifications with respect to normative toxicological and biologic as well as customer-specific requirements.

Aside from technical thermoplastic materials, we also process high-performance plastics such as PEEK and PEI.

These materials are primarily used in the manufacture of micro tubing in catheter applications and for diagnostic devices.

These applications pose extraordinary requirements to the material and may include multiple sterilisation cycles with hot steam that are, as a rule only, possible with metal-based materials.

And it also includes extremely high-pressure requirements for thin-walled extruded products.

Fluoropolymers

Fluoropolymers are high-performance plastics and are very resistant against almost all chemical compounds. Thanks to a very smooth surface nearly nothing adheres to the products made from this material.

We process the fluoropolymers FEP or PTFE for you. We produce coils and fixed lengths with the measurements requirement by you which are ideally suited and produced for the respective application purpose.

Your advantages when selecting a fluoropolymer:

FEP

  • Extrudable “Teflon” with processing temperatures above 290°C
  • Excellent resistance to chemicals
  • Excellent resistance to solvents

PTFE Moldflon® exclusively for RAUMEDIC (cooperation partnership with Elring Klinger)

  • Processing temperatures above 320°C
  • Almost universally resistant to chemical substances
  • Thermoplastic processibility thanks to a new formulation
  • Excellent sliding properties
